What does the new law do? / ¿Qué hace la nueva ley?

The new law (A4743/S3229) allows all those who live in New Jersey, regardless of immigration status, the opportunity to get tested for a standard driver’s license or obtain a state ID card. The standard license is not a work permit nor is it a “R.E.A.L. ID” card, so it cannot be used to get on a plane or enter a federal building. Its purpose is for driving and for identification only.

La nueva ley (A4743/S3229) permite a todos aquellos que viven en Nueva Jersey sin importar su estatus migratorio, la oportunidad de tomar el examen para obtener una licencia de conducir estándar o obtener una tarjeta de identificación estatal.

La licencia estándar no es un permiso de trabajo ni es un “REAL ID”, por lo que no se puede usar para montarte en un avión o entrar en un edificio federal. Solo es para conducir y para identificación.
